Winchester 60A Target

One is listed and for sale in my area. I looked them up, and understand this is a different animal than my starter model 60. (long ago traded off by my father). Even thou these were low production, 6000 or so, the asking price of 350 seems high for a single shot 22. This has a 27" barrel, and a target stock. I don't want to let a good one go by, and wonder how it would handle 22 shorts?

It would shoot 22 short but may be the wrong twist rate as well as cost more then 22 long rifle I suspect the price reflexs the fact that it is in collector condition .IMHO if you have no collector interest but are looking for a shooter you should pass on this one . I never like shooting shorts in any gun chambered for 22long rifle leaves the chamber with a bunch of crud in it. go with a cheap bolt action. Marlin stevens savage remington winchester .

    Thanks perry shooter.

I am hoping for 350 it is a rifle worthy of hanging on to and possibly passing down. I'm sure your right about 22 short leaving crud and whatnot. Sounds like a couple of shots off the porch once and a while won't be a problem. I shoot all my rifles (most of them older than me), and hope never to have one I'm afraid to handle and or shoot.

assuming 85-90% low 6,000 production, 1939 vintage $350 is in the range correct?

Closed auctons ( 90 day window) @ GB shows one in about same condition @ 400.00 . Others are up for bid now for less.

    Check them out !

Thanks guys for the input. I passed on the rifle upon inspection. I don't think it was in correct collecter condition, and was just not pretty enough for me to want to hang on to it. Question, was there two different stocks for these? I've seen photos of a grooved forend. This stock just looked like a plain old 60 like I had as a kid. It did have complete lyman sight with 3 extra rear sight inserts and the 27" barrel. thanks for all the advice

Madis notes three different stiocks for the Model 60:

One for the Model 60 Sporter that came with the 23inch barel, one for the Model 60A Target that had one barrel band, and the Model 60A Sporter which came with the grooved forend and 27 inch barrel, as you noted.
