Are older versions reliable? By older, I mean before the lasers were built in.

Exactly right on the "Sigmas", it seems like ANY S&W semi-auto gun with Sigma on it was a lemon no matter the caliber.

The new Bodyguard .380 series guns have been really well received by those I know with them.

Ran a search on the GB Forums and the S&W site. Couldn't find a recall. There was a S&W recall of some Walthers in 380.

Ran another search on the gun and about 10 members think the older Sigma model was junk.

I guess I'll have to turn down my friend's offer to sell one to me.

    Thanks,

    Jim

S&W improved and renamed the Sigma model line the "SD" series after tons of bad reviews/press about the original design. The mags should be interchangable with the Sigma, and the trigger is supposedly better, but it's still their "entry-level" polymer pistol with (it seems) the "target" buyer being a first-timer getting into pistol ownership who doesn't want to break the bank.

The older Sigmas were lousy. I have friends who were issued them who hated them, and each and every agency I know of that had them has gone on to something else. If the gun you're being offered is a Sigma, pass.

The S&W M&P line is their top-of-the-line polymer pistol. These are very good guns, IMHO, and as posted earlier, the Bodyguard poly .380 has been doing well with the folks I know with them.
