Hello. I have a Remington Model 31 with a serial number of 55xxx but the barrel has a serial number of 87xxx. Obviously mismatched and obviously the barrel has been replaced prior to me acquiring it. Is there anyway to know when the receiver was manufactured?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Please excuse me for my lack of knowledge on this shotgun. What is a "cutts with a spreader"? I'm assuming the 26" is the length of the barrel. Does yours have any markings on the receiver? Mine is strictly Remington, the serial number, and Model 31. No other designations next to the 31.
Thank you again.
Another interesting feature of my Model 31 is the fore end has been cut down. Not by much. The end closest to the receiver has been cut 1/2 - 3/4" to the steel ring under the fore end. Has anyone ever heard of this? Was this a military thing? The cut is so perfect it looks factory. It even has the stain on the cut end.
Been out of town, spreader was a choke tube for the cutts shorter then the rest wide open. may or maynot have mil. markings.A block of ser. no. was bought by mil. This is listed under trench guns in blue book.tks hedge[:D]

Thanks Hedge. Yeah I took a look at my shotgun again. The barrel serial number was 70xxx. I'll take a look at the trench guns info.
