Japanese Cleaning Rod Length

Thanks for the info. on how to remove the rod.This brings up a couple of other questions.#1-How did the Japanese soldier use a 17 1/4" rod to clean a barrel about 3" longer?Maybe he cleaned from breach and from muzzle and therefore got to clean the whole bore.#2-Why is the end of the rod threaded?

    It is that short, and is threaded, because that is only the END of the cleaning rod. The rest was carried elsewhere.

    Ans: 2 squadmates would screw together the 2 shorter rods, combining them to get the req OAL.
