I purchased a 20ga. today. It needs a little restoration to make it a respectable quail gun. However when I got home with her, I thought I knew how to break the gun down(it is a take down model). Igot it apart but can't seem to get her back togather! Can someone help? Does the bolt need to be forward as in closed?[:(]

Over the years I've bought and sold a couple of Model 12's that have a "wing" on the shell follower seemingly there to prevent the shell from the magazine from falling out the ejection port. M97"s had something similar on all guns but on the model 12's they're on some but not all. I thought it was some mod that Winchester did away with at some point but last week I bought one that was made in 1947ish that had the "wing".
I have a couple M12's made well prior to 1947 that don't have this feature. What's the story on this? None of the "experts" at skeet club have any idea.

    Thanks,

    Riley P.

I have a winchester model 12 16 ga serial#713703. It is in decent shape. I was wondering how to know how old it is. Also, I have a slug barrel for it with matching serial numbers. How would this effect the value, if it would.

I am looking for a Winchester model 12 trap pump shotgun to replace which was purchased in the 1920's or within ten years either way.
If I cannot locate one I want to replace it with a similar type of shotgun with long term value and quality. Does any know of a web site to purchase such an item? Any suggestions on a same quality gun to purchase for long term value and investment?

    Sincerely,
    RUSTY DOG

I inherited my father's Winchester Model 12 shotgun and would like to determine it's worth. I know it's a pre-1964 12 gaugw qith a 2 3/4" chamber. It needs to be recondishioned as it has some rust marked on the barrel and there is some water damage to the stock. Any ideas on what the low end value would be?

I have a Winchester Model 12 that belonged to my GGrandfather. Shotgun is in real good shape. I was told by an Uncle that the gun was reblued and it has a polychoke on the barrel. Reblueing is real good also if it has. I was wondering if the value of the shotgun is destroyed. I love this old gun and if the value is destoyed I was going to configure it for rabbit and quail. Shorten stock and barrel. I need some opinions. According to the serial numbers this gun was manufatured in 1935. Thanks Sam.

I'm looking for a Model 12 collector for advise. I bought a Model 12 Heavy Duck, 3", 30 barrel with a solid rib a while back. It was in pretty sad shape, and since I had no intention of re-selling it, I had it reblued, and put 25 coats of Tru Oil on the stripped and sanded stock. I would really like to duck hunt with the gun, but of course I wouldn't shoot steel shot through it, and the alternative shot is outrageously expensive. Since I have probably already spoiled the collector value by refinishing it, I assume that if I had it screw choked to shoot steel shot, I would not be doing any further damage, right??[?]

I have a winchester model 12 serial number 305,580 "nickle steel", modified choke, barrell 28" plain, it has a kick pad is that orginial or was that added? The bluing is in very good shape, it has three nicks or dings in the wood. The gun is extremely tight. I would like to know what grade of gun would this be? Skeet or Pigeon? I would like to know what the value of this gun would be as well. Any information you have on this gun will be most helpful.

    Thanks,

    Morning...

I have a Winchester Model 12 just given to me by my Grandmother. The gun belonged to her dad who happened to be a sheriff many years ago in North Dakota (the gun was actually confiscated from a poacher and he ended up buying it at auction).

The gun is in pretty good shape. The serial number 307708. It is a single shot pump with a 28 inch barrel. Not sure what else you'd need, but anyone have an idea how old it is or what it's worth? I would never sell it, just curious of it's history.

Thanks - you may post a reply if you know, or email me at mraderm946@aol.com

    Anyone familiar with Model 12:

What does the "w" signify below the serial number on some Models 12.

It appears under the serial number, just at the edge of the magazine chamber.

Have seen this on a very few, but do not know what it refers to.

I have my dads old Model 12 Winchester. I started having problems with loading shells into the tube mag. They are not staying in place, they just pop back out. I might be able to figure it out in the end but I'm willing to forfeit that achievement if someone would give me a tip. I have taken it down and cleaned and lubricated everything.

    Thanks

I have the chance to buy a Model 12 with a kuts choke for $200. That's all I know right now. I am in the process of recieving pics of it. I need help with the kuts choke as I am not familiar with it. I heard it is mainly for shooting matches, and that it means the gun is not original which would decrease the value. Any help with this?

I have a winchester model 12, bought years ago, that has a couple of problems. First, the brass bases of the fired shells have a bulge near the rim, about a quarter of the way around as I remember. (havent shot it in a long time) Second, I had the chamber lengthened and since then the shells stick and are hard to eject. It is a nickle steel barrel and from the looks of the fired cases, the reamer must have chattered and left flutes in the front of the chamber. What do you think of trying to hone it smooth with a wood plug turned to fit it and some grinding compound? Any advise appreciated. I am a fairly competent machinist, but can't call myself a gunsmith.

I just recieved this shotgun from my dad which was given to him by his dad. I'm looking for year of manufacture, and ballpark value, not that I would ever even consider selling it. The shotgun of course is a model 12, 2 3/4 cham, full choke, 30 in bbl, no rib on bbl. I would rate condition at 90 to 95%, all original, no modifications. Serial number 12165XX. Thanks in advance for your time.
