I have an sks that is missing the front ferrule pin. Besides getting another ferrule pin, what can I pick up at the hardware store to use? I was thinking about a roll pin but did not know what size might work.

    Having difficulty identifying, "ferrule"?

It is the the metal piece at the end of the gas tube that holds the hand guard on. Either 2b or 2c.

I went to the Gun Parts site. The Ferrule pin is listed as part number #2 C, on their parts list. Their price is $3.30. For that money, I would buy it. If you don't want to go the Gun Parts route, either make one out of a cut off drill shank, or a roll pin of the proper diameter.

$3.30 plus shipping makes it a $10 pin. I'd rather not pay that if I can avoid it.

Does anybody know what size roll pin would work?

When you replace the pin you have to peen both sides of the pin and us a file to size it to fit back into position and there is not much left of the end of the pin holding the hand guard/gas cylinder in place. I think a nail cut down and peened will work fine, I found that this is a little bit bigger job than it looks, but I got the job done. I think that a roll pin will not hav enough material left to hold the pin in place once you file it down to fit.
