You don't specify what your hunting with or the ranges you must be capable of.If you hunt under 275yd (give or take) than setup for a 6" max PBR (plus / minus 3") and enjoy the offerings of burris or leupold. If you and your rifle / ammo combo are capable of sub MOA out to 500 yd AND where your hunting requires that kind of shooting, might I suggest the Shepherd line of scopes.

Burris is a good scope. So is Leupold. And their prices are comparable. However, I prefer Leupold because of (1) their warranty, and (2) their resale value. Leupold warrants their scopes unconditionally, and you don't have to be the original buyer. If you someday sell the scope, a Leupold will bring over 2X what a Burris will. Most of that enhanced resale value is because of the warranty.

Burris compact 3x9 on the .270, Burris compact 4x on the .22, Burris EER 4x on the contender; can't beat them with a stick.
Guitars, Cadillacs, and Hillbilly Music...The only things that keep me hangin on...

Rafter...Once i put these scope one my guns they will not be coming off..I see a lot more of the leupolds for sale might be because of resale value...Or because lot of people buy them and then want to get rid of them..((ie:I missed the biggest fkn deer in my life because of them dam leupolds...HAHA in stead of blaming themselves))...Do you know what burris has for Warranty??...Just asking i don't know either[This message has been edited by Harleeman1030 (edited 03-10-2002).]

Well....Leupold's have adorn all my rifles for the last 30 years. Not to say that they are the best because there are a few others out there that will surpass them. The Leupold's are a brighter scope than the Burris, given the same size scope for comparison. I have seen and heard of many Leupold's going back for repair and this was mostly because of the adjustments. The Nightforce line of scopes is the #1 choice for most long distance shooters now days, but for me, they are to pricey. So when I look at the speed & service of the Leupold company I will continue to use there scopes.Coyote-manPS; Nikon has a good grade of scopes too.

Harleeman-- Regarding Leupold and Burris scopes, it resembles a discussion between Ford and Chevy owners--it's endless and there is no "right" or "wrong." I think you can't go wrong with either one. Find some store that has both brands and give them a comparison. Then buy the one you prefer.Happy shooting!

Just a few add ons pro Burris:1.All scopes have been multicoated for years.Leupolds haven't been till lately.2.Zoom tube, and adjustment system stronger built, and will track more accurately.3.Resolution(defination) is better when comparing same models.4. 100% USA made. Not just assembled like Leupold.5.Resell same value as Leupold, for those who know them, or have used them, usually won't go back. Why do you think Leupold has "reinvented" the line up so much?
    Happy Bullet Holes!

I have said it before on this board and will say it again, I gave away a vari-x III when I put on a Burris signature 4-16x44. It is just as clear, just as good of a warranty, and less $$$. You can target knobs installed at the factory for $60. Mine are very accurate in their adjustments. I do like Leupold scopes, but, IMHO, I would take a Signature series burris for less $$ and the same performance and warranty. Now if we are talking tactical scopes, that's entirely different.
