I know that we used shotguns in ww2 but what type were they? What kind was the most common?

The latest issue of American Rifleman has a comprehensive article by Bruce Canfield on US WWII shotguns.

You sound like you are interested in shotguns, as used in combat. If I may make a recommendation: find a copy of the book "The World's Fighting Shotguns." I don't recall the author's name but big book dealers that set up at gun shows often have the book. It's a large hardback book filled with photos and a historical account of the development and use of fighting shotguns. It makes facinating reading...it's a book any gun enthusiasts would enjoy.Did you know there was a silent shotgun shell developed?...not a silencer on a shotgun, but a silent shotgun shell. It tells all about it in the book. I hope I have you interested.
