I would like to get a new 22lr but dont know what to buy. I have a Colt Colteer auto bit i dont like an auto and the Colt is a collectors peice. I would like a bolt or a lever action. Models I am considering are Marlin model 880ss, Winchester model 94 legacy,Browning BL-22,or one of the savage bolt models. Any idea for a cheap scope? A friend of mine wants to sell me his BL-22 for 150$ i know you can't beat that price but it has alot of rust freckles on it. Any cheap way of getting rid of freckles?

I recently bought a Ruger M77/22 and it shoots great. It even comes with a cheapie scope that works good also. I picked it up for $300.

Can I put in a word about an Auto? Look at a Rem model 550! It's a full size rifle, with a "floating chamber" Thats shoot ANY 22 ammo!!! Shorts, longs, long rifle, even mixed up!!! *G* It'll shoot CB caps, but they don't have enough power to cycle the action. Not a popular model, so price is fair. All you have to do is find one (don't make them any more). Hope I haven't wasted your time ...but this is my favorite 22! Good Luck! ...Mark

If money is no object, the Kimber Classic is the finest I have EVER seen. They are spendy though.[This message has been edited by He Dog (edited 03-07-2002).]

Look for a good clean used Marlin boltaction. These models usually have a heavier barrel and a "grownup" feel about them. I like the ones with the tubular magazines, but plenty of clip fed ones out there too. I have owned a few, but every one of them shot like the dickens.KC

You hardly ever hear of a Marlin bolt action 22 that doesn't shoot good. I don't personally own any of them but am speaking from experience shooting them. A lot of my freinds own them so I get to shoot them. I shoot a lot of targets and the Marlins are AOK!! If you want to spend some more money, get a Remington 541-s,541-t or 40-X rimfire. They are the top of the class as far as I'm concerned, but I'm just one opinion and everybody has one!!

If you don't mind the extra weight their are all the older target models that havn't gone out of sight yet like the Mossberg 44us etc.

Go for the Browning Lever at 150 it is a good buy. I love mine, the BL has the shortest lever throw of any lever action 22. Mine shoots very well, I have a peepsight instead of a scope. Rub the rust freckles with the edge of a penny. The copper is soft enough it won"t hurt the blueing, but will take off the rust. Good Luck . 350

No one has mentioned the Winchester Model 9422, yet - I will. They are the greatest!

I don't know what your upper limit is. ChampionShooters has an Anschutz 1751D. I got mine for $795. At 50 yards it will hold 1/2 inch, 5 shots. Yesterday I had trouble holding under 1.5 inches at 100 yards, 5 shots, but winds were gusting up to 15 mph with lulls in the 5-7 MPH range. Lapua and Eley ammo. The rifle is very, very "clinicial" in operation. Nothing spectacular about looks or features, just accuracy that is astounding.Enjoy,
