US Property marked 303 No4 MKI*

I just got a US Property marked 303. I'm told the gun was made by Savage. There is a 42 stamp on the stock band so I'm guessing 1942 mfg. The serial number prefix is 32C and there are a few letter "S" with a circle around it on various places of the rifle. What does the " * " after the MKI mean? Is there anything special about the rifle, or is it just a regular 303? Here is a link to some pics. http://content.communities.msn.com/rballipics/shoebox.msnw?Page=Last Roy

The * means that the rifle was a modified model from the Mk1, the difference is in the method of removing the bolt from the gun, in your gun there is a notch in the rail for the bolt head to be released, in the standard gun there was a release devise, other than this the guns age alike, no change in Cal.

The circle around the S is the marking for savage. And you are right about the 42.
