Is this a rare round these days? I have been to a few stores Cabels & Bass Pro to name a few and they only have a few. I was wondering why, it is a versitable round and shoots really flat?

The 25-06 looks like a great varmit to deer load. Why don't you see it more?

Any opinions on the 25-06 as a target round? We're talking 100 to 300 yds, paper punching for the most part.

I reload and have all sorts of rifles & calibers - 223s, 6 & 7mm, 30 cal & up - looking at the 25-06 as an all day shooter with a little more power than the 6mm Remington. I handle recoil well, 40 rds through a 375 H & H doesn't hurt, but it's not my idea of an all day target rifle.

I already have a Ruger 77VS and it is fantastically accurate. I see it offered in the 25-06 also.

Any thoughts on the caliber or gun?

I ran across this gun and it's built on a mauser98 action (Belgin)
Mcmillen barrel i think. What would this be worth?

About 8 months ago i purchased a savage 110 in 25-06. It has a heavy barrel 22 inches long. On the bolt it has "Savage tactical" wrote on it. It has BSA 6x24x44 scope with 1/8 inch turret adj. At the time i purchased this rifle (for 300 dollars) i really had no interest in long range shooting, but now i have taken interest. My question is this, Is this a good enough beginer rifle or should i sell it and try to find something better. The rifle may have had no more than 150 rounds of factory loaded ammo run through it.

With a 120 gr. bullet @ 2,900 fps. and sighted in at 100 yards I get-* A 3.4 inch drop at 200 yds and energy- 15.84* A 12.6 inch drop at 300 yds and energy- 11.2* A 28.7 inch drop at 400 yds and energy- 9.30 Do to the drop and loss of energy - I would say 300 yds max. The 100 gr. is about the same. A 250 yd shot would be safe to assume a good kill. Good Luck!

daddo, Don't mean to upset you ar anything, but I've KILLED mule deer in their tracks at 350 yds., praire dogs till I got tired of shoting them at 350-400 yds and whtetails anywhere from 25 to400 yds with a 25-06!! It's the most versitile cartridge being produced at this time. The only other cartridge that comes close based on versatility is th 22-250. Go ahead Swift guys and pick on me!!!!

Hunter30, groundhog devastation is right on-- For groundhogs, I use 52 gr of IMR 4350 behind a 90 gr. speer Gameking (the smallest boattail Speer makes). I don't have a chrono, but my scope is set 3" high at 100 yds, and I can whack a groundhog from 100 to 275 with a dead on hold. For deer, with a 117 or 120 gr. factory load, you're fine to 350 yds+, but bullet placement is important at long range.By the way, I used the above load to whack a pig last summer at 491 yds measured distance. THAT was not a dead on hold !!
