I'm looking to pick up a 7.62x51 to tote in a patrol car and want it to have all of the evil features-but without selling any of my children to afford it.I hear differing stories about DSA, Hesse and ARS. Any opinions on which US company makes the best FAL type?Any input on carbine length as opposed to the full size rifle?

Take a look at the Imbel M-444 rifle. Has the metric Imbel receiver, a muzzle brake, pistol grip and looks like a real pre-ban FN. Got mine for around $700, and I can tell you that it is a real shooter. Might be a little on the long side for patrol use, but that 7.62 hits one hell of alot harder than any 9, 40 or 45....Check out the ad from Dans Sporting Goods in the Shotgun News. Good luck...

From what I have read and been told by fellow shooters, go with the DSA or ARS rifles( If you can fit them into your budget) Hesse doesn't have the most sterling reputation. But you could buy 2 of the IMBEL rifles for the price of one of the others??? Carbine length barrels are LOUD!!! BTW, mags are CHEAP for the FN's. I'm paying right around $10 per mag and the conditions are like new. Thought that I would pass this info along, and I hope that it helps...
