I found an advertised deal for a "tricked out" Griffon 1911 A-1 for less than $400.00 (still have to pay S/H and FFL fee)- see www.sprinco.com. Found the First Defense web site (www.firstdefense.com - which is in really sad shape and someone should be ashamed). Still don't know anything about the quality of their guns or their reputation. Found one thread where a poster was pleased with Griffon- looking for anymore with knowledge, experience, or citation (i.e guntests article) for the S. African produced Griffon 1911 A-1, thanks for the attetnion.

I have one of these Griffon's, and i love it. ive installed a comp on the barrel, videcki trigger, s&a magwell and different grips. shoots exceptionally well. makes one large ragged hole in the target at 25 yards, at 50 i can cover the holes with a playing card. so far, over 20,000 rounds no malfunctions with the one exception of Blazer ammo....seems the bullets in the mag tend to get driven deeper into the casing as you fire the gun, by the 5th or 6th round they are a bit too short to feed reliably. thats my only problem. dont think you can blame it on the firearm. would i buy another? yes.
