These are exerpts from an ad in Gun Broker.I would like your input. It is priced at $579. Is this quality. Is this rare? Would it be legal to thread the muzzel?"This STG-58 type FAL is one assembled by C.A.I. when excellent Steyr parts kits were still available. It has an arsenal proofed barrel, and has the genuine Imbel "gear" logo on the receiver. The 20.5 inch barrel appears to be original military with a mint bore, and has the collar for a bi-pod, but does not have either a flash hider or threaded muzzle. It has a pistol grip (not thumb-hole) stock. The stock, pistol grip and handguard are black plastic. It comes with one 20 round magazine. The Imbel receivers are no longer importable, and these guns are getting really hard to find. There are plenty of inch and inch/metric L1A1s, and some FALs that are stamped as Imbels by C.A.I., but without the logo. This is the genuine item.

I have one of these. I have shot it many times and with various mfgs of ammo, it has been utterly reliable, very accurate, and worth what I paid for it. threading the barrel, if I am not mistaken, can be done, providing it is legal in your state/localityAnad"Fast is good, but accuracy is everything"Wyatt Earp

If there were any flash hiders that would screw onto the threads you put on, threading the barrel would be a violation of federal law.

I could be wrong; but this sounds like the one SOG has in its ad for $459.
