+P ammo in a Smith 36?

I am seriously looking at getting a used Smith & Wesson model 36 that appears to be in very good mechanical shape. I am wondering if I should shoot any +P .38 Spl through it (I have Cor-Bon in mind) or if that would be a bad idea. Opinions?

I very seldom shoot +P in my 36, but have never had any problems when I do. I do carry CorBon +P's in it, but I only shoot up and replace my defensive loads every two years to keep them fresh. When I practice, I use standard .38 special. I think I read and article that said all steel S&W's were compatable with +P ammo, except the Airweight Titanium models. You can, however, go to S&W's website and ask them. it is, http://www.smith-wesson.com/ Let us know what they say!

I asked Elmer Keith the same question about the Airweight some years back. In his memo he wrote that he'd fired 500 rounds of 38/44 in his without visible effect on his gun. He advised that it was safe but due to heavy recoil you wouldn't want to fire many.Aluminum cylinders in both Chief and K-framed guns have had some blow-ups with HS loads leading to early discontinuance of the aluminum cylinders.

Smith & Wesson's reply to my question was this:"Yes, you may fire +P in the model 36."Thanks for all the replies. I don't intend to shoot alot of +P in it, but I wanted to know for sure...............'Blue
