45 ACP AMMO??????

I have recently been given two and a half boxes of 45 acp ammo (I think) .It will not fit in a magazine as it is too long .The boxes it is in says that it was manufactured by Evansville Ordnance Plant ,Evansville ,Indiana. It says it is for use in hunting small game and is effective for a range of 25 feet .The cartridge base indicates it was manufactured in 1943. I "presume" that they are some sort of shotshell but am wary about feeding them one at a time through my taurus PT945 .Anyone know if they are safe to shoot through my gun , or should I keep them for collectability ??

This is the M15 Shot cartridge made for aircrew survival packs in the Pacific in WW2. Usually there is some verbiage on the pkg warning that the shells had to be chambered individually / manually. Corrosive primed, as you probably knew. Not a terribly useful load in today's world, these are primarily a collectible whose value would depend on condition, packaging and case material. I infer from your post they are brass and missing the original outer foil sealing wrap; at best they would sell in the low to mid 20s at retail if what remains is in excellent condition.

Thanks for the info .Two of the boxes are fully sealed .The opened box is where I got the cartridges from and they are brass with a kinda waxed paper/cardboard? projectile .The boxes have M12 on them and contain ,I think ,approx 20 cartridges per box.. 'K, the M12 was the earlier version. Still must be hand chambered. The only shot cartridges which will cycle through the action reliably are some commercial loads Remington produced which have been off the market for some time. Both versions of the loading were packaged 20/box. This type is less common and more desirable as a collectible, but again the condition is very important.I just saw some of these up for auction - your partial box?

Not mine . What sort of money would a full box of 20 in VGC bring??It sounds like it would be foolish to shoot them off.

I'm on less solid ground on these . . . and one guy's VG is the next's F or mint . . . w/o a pic I can't relate it to my own standards which I use in keeping my records. I can give you some advice on selling if you wish to contact me: tcg25@hotmail.com; I definitely would not shoot them unless you had a real rat problem and no other solution.

Iconoclast, You really are great with your advice! I love reading it!! I started visualizing some guy with 60 year old shot shells blowing the heck out of the local rodent population and just started laughing. Thanks for making my day. Beach
