zeiss or leupold

zeiss 4.5-14 conquest scope or leupold 4.5 -14 long range tacticle with side parallax adjustment. the cost of these scopes are close enough where it wont be a deciding factor. i know the specs on these scopes, and the pros and cons. i also had the chance to actually chance to compare the zeiss scope to a leupold viii 3.5-10 and to me the zeiss was as sharp if not sharper but noticibly brighter than the leupold. but what i need to know is wich scope would be the better investment. thanks, glenn

    Glenn,

    I prefer the Zeiss myself, I have several European scopes and I don't believe you can beat their optics. Zeiss now has a facility here in the States, so warranty work is no problem, that is if you need it.

    Leupold also makes a good product, but I still prefer a Zeiss.

    If I'm not mistaken, I think the lenses are made in Germany, and assembled here in the States. I'll double check on that.
    I know they are in the Diavari Z and C series according to her.

    I have both. I like them both, I think you should like at them both and decide which one is best for you for the money.

    Either is a good choice. You seem partial to the Zeiss, so go with it. Don't think of a scope as a financial investment, you make break it, or drive a truck over it. That said, either will hold value well, though both will depreciate some in the short term. Neither is likely to evaluate short of 25 years.

    If this helps to make up your mind, I just got off the phone with Zeiss.
    On the Conquest line of scopes, all the parts are made in Germany, sent here and assembled here.
    All of their products have a lifetime warranty here in the States , and the gray market have a 30 year parts and 5 year labor.

    My decision would rest on the benefits or caveats of each scope. If you are simply hunting at known ranges, the Zeiss with it's clarity and light retention would be better. However, if you are shooting multiple times at different but known or guesstimated distances, then the adjustment features on the leupold long range are better suited. the target style adjustment and focus are great for long shots. Hence the name. Both are great scopes, just depends on your purpose.

    The Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 does have turret mounted adjustable parallax. But like you say, both scopes are good, but I still prefer the quality of German lenses.

    I don't follow you on the target adjustment, I presume you're talking about the adjustable objective, but if you want more literature on Zeiss products, here is a number you can call. 800-441-3005
    Ask for customer service and I think her name is Dianah. She will tell you all you want to know about them, and also send you some brochures.

    Forget those two and buy a pentax lightseeker-30 4-16x50. Price is right there in the range you are looking at. About 750 bucks. I have had nothing but great success with mine. Crystal clear and there is no such thing as too dark to see.

    Still enjoying all 4 of my burris..Sold all my leupold to get them but i like em try to look thru all the scopes you can before you buy..

    bullelk, I was actually asking about target knobs. I like to have the tactical adjustments that are right in the open, but I can live with target knobs underneath their caps too. thanks.

    So,...we are looking at what? $800? $900?
