SKS Scopes???

My question is I just got an sks and I want to trick it out. I want to know how the shell deflectors work. If I use one can i put a larger scope on gun, also does anyone know of a folding compact bipods? I'm noot looking for the standard ones, but I'm looking for the ones that the legs adjust. Thanks for the help.

    The shell deflectors work for what they are, other than that, that's all I can say. The way I would install the bipod you mentioned, is to install a quick detach swivel stud at the front of the stock and install a Harris or some other brand of bipod. The larger scope, is almost a waste as far as accuracy goes. Don't get me wrong, I like the groups for the money you have in an SKS, they are great for the $$$, but unless you have a scope laying around, I would just buy a cheap one that is compact to keep the weight down. Just my .02, I am sure there are other opinions.

    A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

    I agree with justc you really dont need a better scope. as for Bipods if you want to avoid the expence of the harris go to WWW.cheaperthandirt.com they have bipods just for the SKS for under $20.oo bucks.

    OK, here's my take from my experience with scopes and an SKS.........
    Get a compact Simmons 4 power 7 inch long scope from Sportsman's Guide. Do not get a Square B mount as you must cut the reciver cover retaining pin to use it. Get a cheap high mount for the SKS from TAPCO.com and put the Simmons 4 power 7 inch scope on it with that 242
    screw stuff. A longer scope is no good, trust me, I've been there and done that. The shell deflector is only used for longer scopes and they ALL occassionally drop a spent shell back into the chamber and jam your SKS. Don't mess with a shell deflector, they are a waste. The adjustable Harris bipod is nice if you have $50. I use it. One last thing, DO NOT GET A CHEAP CHINESE SCOPE LIKE LEEPERS OR BSA. You will regret it, I'bve been there too. Get that 4 power Simmons

    I've been the scope route ... they are a pain in the *. What really works best (IMHO) is the weaver rail type mount thats mounted to a reciever cover ... and a red dot! ... This allows your sight to sit back far enough to use stripper clips. BSA makes a decent red dot and is about $30-$50, its not a Leupold, but then you are putting it on an SKS which is a lot of fun and cheap to shoot, but it isn't a tack driver.

    BTW- I've only had a problem with 1 BSA scope that I bought used (and very cheap), sent it in and got a brand new one! Another one I've had for about four years is on a tricked out bull barrel AR-15, I've placed in the top 3 positions of our varmint shoot every year with the same scope, shooting well under 1 inch at 200yd. They work great on low recoil weapons like AR-15's ... but I don't think they will stand up for long to a .270, .308 or more powerful cartridge.
