ar-15 silencers/suppressors

Heres a tough one. A friend of mne collects all sorts of military rifles, shotguns, and handguns. He insists that a fake silencer on the end of his custom m4 carbine would give it that final touch. We both looked for a maker of dummy/fake suppressors but to no avail. i was wondering if anyone out there knows a company that markets some sort of fake suppressor, particularly for the ar-15, m-16, m4 family, but any other types would help to. thanks

p.s. all of you who take time to answer some of the questions on here are a huge help to some of us who aren't familiar with particular subjects. thanks to all for your input and time.

I saw an advertisement for one in Shotgun News, maybe even Gun List. It's made for AirSoft guns but I believe the ad said they were planning on making one for real AR15s. I thought the fake silencer in the picture looked pretty darn good. I'll try and look when I get home but I'm down to just the last two issues of each mag as I took a whole boat-load of them out to the recycling last week.

SHOOT MAKE YOUR OWN, FIRST YOU CAN REMOVE THE FLASH HIDER, MEASURE THE PITCH & SIZE OF THE TREADS. GO TO YOUR LOCAL MUFFLER SHOP GET A PIECE OF TAIL PIPE APX 11" LONG. NEXT GET SOME LIGHT GAUGE SHEET METAL APX 18GAGUE. DRAW THE OUT LINE OF THE TAILPIPE ON YOU SHEET METAL & CUT IT OUT, THIS WILL BE THE END CAP. DRILL A HOLE APX 7/16 IN DIA. NEXT GET A BLOCK OF STEEL APX 1/2" THICK, THREAD IT THE SAME AS THE MUZZULE. WELD THE BLOCK TO THE END CAP,CENTERED!, WELD THE END CAP TO THE MUFFLE PIPE, NOW YOU HAVE A FAKE SUPPRESSOR.
    WARNING!!!!!
    1) MAKE SURE THE MUZZLE BLOCK & END CAP ARE CENTERED!, OTHERWISE A BULLET COULD COME THROUGH IT!
    2) ATF FROWNS ON UNREGISTED SUPPRESSOR'S, LEAVE THE END CAP OFF THE VERY END OF THE UNIT!, THAT WAY THEY CANT SAY THAT YOU BUILT A ILEAGAL SUPPRESSOR. DO NOT!, AGAIN, DO NOT! PUT ANY TYPE OF SOUND SUPPRSION MATERIALS INSIDE OF UNIT!

One of the easiest ways is to get a MAC 10/RPB/SWD/RPB fake suppressor in 9mm and the thread adaptor for the Ar -15 to MAC 10 suppressor, No alignment problems, no alterations and more important..No problems with ATF over an unregistered suppressor, I think I may have the adaptor, I know I have the fake suppressor in 9mm

    i agree with preban,
a mac unit would work, dont know of any adapters. a machine shop would charge apx $100 in my guess, to make an adapter.

nothing else call up some of the mfg's, iam sure they would build one for $85-$150. just depeneds on what you want and the cubic dollar.

    The threads are 1/2 X 28
A fake suppressor should not be more than $80.
If so I think I can make and sell you onr for that.

I checked my remaining issues of SN and GL but did not find the ad. Must have been 6 or 7 issues back. I think it went for $100+ and I thought it was very nice looking. Most of the suggestions so far are the cheap and easy version, yet perfectly valid if that's what your friend wants. I'll keep my eye open when the next issues come along. It's definately worth looking at if he's not concerned about pay a little more.
