Thanks Saxon, previous owner says it's more powerful than regular 9m/m.I will find out when it comes in.Lee makes dies for it (or did) I thought I could find loads in their Loading Manual, but no soap.He has included a set of Lee Dies and some loading data.Just wanted to get some advanced info.

I have read the 9mm federal was an ill fated cartridge from the begining. But I would love to have one beats fooling with moon clips. I wonder if you can shoot 9mm federal in a Ruger sp1o1,they say there built twice as strong as need be?

Just thought I would pass along a little info.... First, let me say this. The 9 mm is a high pressure cartridge. Small changes in component combinations can result in significant pressure increases! Be careful when developing custom loads.

I had a similar problem when I began loading the .45 Auto Rim cartridge. Everyone said just load it like it was for a regular .45 semi auto pistol and you will be fine. NOT TRUE!

Chronographs much slower! Why? Called and discussed this with Sierra's Customer Service. You might want to do the same with the rimmed 9 mm as Sierra makes a lot of bullets for this caliber. They have a toll free tech line at 1-800-223-8799. Be prepared to learn something I thought was really fun!

What was true for the .45 acp revolver will certainly be true for the 9mm revolver, also. The semi auto pistols have an integral chamber which is the beginning part of the barrel. The cartridge is fired in this chamber and basically, it is self contained. The pressure builds until the bullet clears the muzzle.

What happens in a revolver is that the chamber is NOT a part of the barrel and when a revolver is fired, the gasses expand in the chamber the same as in a semi auto pistol until the bullet has moved forward enough to open the air gap between the cylinder and the barrel. While the bullet is entering the forcing cone of the revolver, gasses are escaping along with some pressure through the air gap. What this means is simply that whatever ammo you are using would end up being less powerful in the revolver when compared to a pistol. This is because of the loss of pressure in the air gap! Interesting? It sure was to me. Sierra is well aware of this and when you compare their loading data for the .45 Auto Rim cartridge with the .45 ACP, you will see they use additional propellent in Auto Rim for the same ballistic specs as you find in the .45 ACP.

Also, the old Colt and S.& W. .45 ACP Army Revolvers are very capable of firing ammunition which exceeds 1000 fps, a substantial increase over the semi autos, increasing their "respect."

Unfortunately, there is no load data in the Sierra Handloading Manual for the 9mm rimmed cartridge, (Federal). I do believe you will find that it will be similar to the regular 9mm Luger, (Parabellum). You will probably be able to "tailor" some fine loads from that data. Be Careful because this cartridge really changes fast with mimimal changes in components! Good Luck and enjoy!
