Info on American Gun Co New York??

I have a double shotgun here that belongs to my cousin who wants info on it.
The only markings are American Gun Co. New York, and a serial number, which is 87199. No proof marks that I can find. I can't get the forend off, maybe something more under it. It has side locks, 20 inch barrels, double triggers, no ejectors. Butt plate looks like plastic, but is too heavy, may be metalic, but I haven't examined it far enough to know. It's tight and works fine, he has hunted rabbits with it as long as he can remember, but it shows its age appearance wise, so probably of no significant value, but his interest is in its history, not what it might be worth.
Any help with the gun or manufacturor would be appreciated. I have pics, but haven't learned how to attach them yet.
