Would appreciate value and history of a Colt Officers model Match
.38 Spl. 6" barrel, not tapered. Has short action single action
only. V.G. to exl. cond .. It is alleged to have been converted
by Colt Factory.

The OMM was introduced in 1953 and ran through 1969, when the Mark III OM took its place. Value depends on condition, with the curve getting much steeper as 100% is approached.

You should get a factory letter because, if the single action is factory-original, the value at least doubles or perhaps triples.

Locally, (South Texas) there is a 1958 (I think) OMM in solid %90 maybe %95 depending on the seller or buyer at an Old Timer's house for $400. The action on this gun feels SMOOTH with no drags or hiccups pulling the hammer back; lockup on this gun is perfect.

There was a very limited few of the Single Action Only Officer's Model Match made! These are one of, if not the rarest of these guns throughout all of their entire series! These are valued even HIGHER than the .22 Magnum of which there was only 850 made. I'm talking about the commonly called Fifth Issue Officer's Model Revolver. The .22 Magnum has an adder of 100% which certainly reflects its rarity. However, the Single Action only is more!

According to the latest issue of the Blue Book of Gun Values, a Fifth Issue OMM in 100% condition would be valued at $575 for a .38 special caliber. .22 LR would be valued at $650 in 100% condition, while the .22 Mag would be valued at $1,150 in 100% condition. Remember, the Blue Book is a "Guide Only" and some regions or collectors may pay more or less. The Single Action Only in 100% condition is valued at $1,325. I have only seen one of these guns in the past three years. It was priced at $1,800 at that time. Don't know whether it sold for that or not. Interesting gun! Quite Rare!
