Trigger pull on .38 S & W revolvers

I have a S & W .38 Model 10 with a 4" heavy barrel. I really enjoy shooting it; it is very accurate and has a sweet, easy trigger pull. Recently, I acquired a Model 36 with a 2" barrel which appears to be in almost new condition. The problem is the trigger on the snubbie. It is much tougher and harder than the Model 10. Is that natural and if not can the trigger pull on the snubbie be lightened by a competent gunsmith?

    Absolutely. I sent my S&W M63 (also a J-frame revolver) to a gunsmith and had the action stoned, Wolff spring kit and wide S&W trigger installed, and it is a dream to shoot.

    My S&W Model 649 has a pretty tough trigger pull for such a small gun. When I researched it I found that it was typcial for the S&W J-frames to have a very tight trigger pull. It does not affect the pistol in anyway and if it is to tough for an individual to pull and still deliver an accurate payload, take it to a gunsmith and have them make some recommendations on any given weapon.

    BTW I agree the S&W model 10 is one of the sweetest shooting irons ever made.

    My model 37 chiefs special has a heavy trigger on DA.pull but on SA.it is very smoothe and crisp. I wouldnt change a thing on it.

    Yes , a lot can be done with these ... but a good gun can be ruined by an amateur ... we do profressional work , I have been the the s&w
    armory school (as well as several others) , we do "slick up" the actions on smith revolvers , at a very reasonable rate...contact us if interested.....

    My Model 60 snubbie was rather stiff when I got it. It's still a bit tight, but has smoothed somewhat on its own. This doesn't negate what a good gunsmith can do, but a trigger job's goal should be evaluated after some shooting. After a few hundred rounds, you'll know how much of a trigger job belongs to the gunsmith and how much is based on your own skill.
