New Turk

Just picked up my Turk 98/54 from SOG this morning at 8:30AM. The finish on the metal is one of the best I have seen on a turk for a while. On the other hand the stock almost looked like someone cut it out with a jig saw and threw a couple of specs of stain on it. It bugged me so much I took out the sand paper, bleach and stain and went to town. Now at 11:48PM I have finally completed my task. although the rifle will soon look nothing like a mil spec 98 I just couldn't resist the urge to see what a brand new Turk would look like! Has any one else run into the same problems with bad stocks on their Turks, or other problems unique to the turks when sporterizing other than the small ring threads? Thanks guys.

The gun I bought is also going to be a sporter project and hopefuly in a couple of months will be a new scout carbine. So far, I have been very impressed with the overal condition of the metal. Its almost flawless. It even looks as though the barrel has never had a round fired through it. There is not one sign of pitting on the entire rifle. I bought two through SOG in excellent condition for about $60.00 per gun. The best thing is that they only charged me about $10.00 for shipping for both guns. The wood was in terrible shape but I"m not intending on using the origional stock so I feel I did very well. I'm going out to shoot it now so I can't comment on their accuracy.
Going back to SOG. I had bought 2-T 38 from them one looked normal, but the other one. The barrel and reciver and the rest of the metal parts were new, no wear whats so ever in the reciever all the bluing is intact, no pitting or anything, bore is in excellent shape. The wood on the other hand was in poor shape. I had found a new unfinished stock at Century Arms, in which I plan on finishing it and put a high gloss finish on it. I even found a bayonet in excellent shape and condition for it.
