Any one out there have experiences(good or bad) with high cap aftermarket mags for the mini 14? Western Metal Products,U.S.A. brand, triple K, Promag, etc... The reason I ask is I see a huge price difference from original ruger 30 rd mags and the aftermarket versions. Is this price difference more of a collectibilty(scarce hard to get original oem)issue or feed and function? In short, Do the aftermarket mags WORK in the mini 14?(Or is it one of those you get what you pay for deals?) Any info appreciated! Rayzor25

Which after market brands of these 20 or 30 round mags are the best? I am sure the Ruger brands are great but they are too expensive for my taste. I already know the USA brand is junk from my AR-15.

I HAVE TRIED MOST ALL BRANDS. WESTERN MAG I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND I TRIED TO RETURN THEM NO ONE WOULD TAKE THEM BACK. USA MAGS WORK ABOUT HALF THE TIME. TRIAL AND ERROR IS THE ONLY TEST I HAVE FOUND ON ANY AFTER MARKET HI-CAP

I've had good luck with the thermold 30rd mags and the PMI mags. The USA and Western are a waste of money in my opinion. Ramline makes a 30rd combo mag that works ok, but for the money I would buy the thermold or PMI. These can be found for $35-$45 and work fine.

I have heard so many people say the USA,and Promags are junk. But you could not prove it by me.WE carry the Mini-14 223 as our non swat carbine and are supplied with Ruger factory 20rd mags. I am a big fan of the mini-14,and 30.In my private collection I own several USA and promag Magazines and they have served me well. But you have to follow the Military theory if you have a 20rd mag load only18 rds in it if you have a thirty RD mag load only 28rds in it.So on and so on.They work well in all of my Mini-14 and 30s Im not saying there the best but they work. And both have a lifetime warranty.

    Good Shooting.

I have all PMI mags, 20, 30 and 40 rounders and they all fit and function perfectly. They are pricey, but they are quality mags!

I guess I just got lucky but I've got a bunch of Westerns, 30s and 40s, and all except one functioned perfectly right out of the box. The other had to be tweaked a bit. They certainly are flimsy and made of soft metal, but they've worked perfectly for me. I've had far less luck with the USAs. Until my Westerns croak on me, I see no reason to spend the ridiculous amounts of money for the factory or PMI mags, though I certainly agree that they are the best as far as overall quality. CDNN investments is a good place to buy from. Their prices are reasonable and they fully refunded my money for any mags that didn't work.

I only have PMI's. Had too much trouble with ALL the others.
Price is less than 1/2 of original, but works just as well.
I've had dozens of PMI's and all worked perfectly. Sold more than 1/2 of them because I had too much and all of my buyers were really happy. Fit and function is the reason why cost of PMI's cost alot more than, say USA or Western, but they are worth it. GD

The Thermolds have always worked for me. I also use the multi use Ramlines.
