Ever seen a Colt Gold Cup like this....

Just bought my first Colt Gold Cup at the DSM gun show today, but can't find any references to this. It's a .45ACP "Classic Gold Cup National Match" series 80 with a mirror polished stainless frame, slide is deep mirrored blue, matte finish on the top of sight groove. Eliason sights, jewelled barrel hood, hammer, and trigger. The serial number is CGCXXXX with only two digit serial number. Came with plastic box, papers, bushing tool, 2 stainless polished magazines (1-7rd and 1-8rd), plus the cardboard box that goes over the plastic one...serial numbers on labels match the gun. Stunning fit and finish, looks to be 99% if not NIB.....

Remote possibility of it having been made in the Colt Custom Shop, but probably started out originally as an "Ultimate" Bright Stainless finish gun. These were mirror finish, (Chrome looking), but the finish was all over the entire gun including the slide. To have a Blue slide indicates it has the slide from another gun. Jeweled parts are not generally done by Colt, either, but are an indication of after factory custom work
. No references to such a gun in any of my literature, which is extensive on Colt. You could only be sure by getting a "Factory Letter" from Colt. It it was specially made, they would be able to tell you for sure. Sounds to me more like a gun someone carefully "customized" to their own liking.

Colt did make one gun that had a blue slide on a matte stainless frame called a "Combat Elite" in the Series 80 guns. These are uncommon, also, but a Catalog item. No Catalog mention of such a Gold Cup....Anywhere I can find! Enjoy it, sounds like a nice gun!

Has rubber wrap around grips with the Colt emblem on each side. Also has the beavertail grip safety. The dealer I got it from said the "CGC" on the serial number designated this as "Classic Gold Cup".....which is also inscribed on the slide. Haven't found any reference to that designation anywhere. The fact that the serial number is only two digits makes me wonder if it was a limited run "Colt Custom Shop" series. This is one of the prettiest factory 1911's I've seen in a long time. He was asking $1200...got it for $950.

The one thing that struck me when I saw that gun was the jewelled barrel hood and trigger. That is rather unique for a Colt factory piece. VERY sweet gun :)

I recently had a problem identifying my Colt Ultimate Commander. After calling some of the 'speciality distributors' and they disavowed knowledge, I bite the bullet and called Colt. After 10 minutes of hold and another 10 of phone transfers a very nice lady said "Oh sure, listed the options that I saw on the gun and some I didn't see, confirmed that it was a Custom Shop gun, and told me the # in the run and manufacture date.

When all else fails, call Colt.
