The S & W Sigma- What's Wrong With It?

I've been shopping recently, and let's just say I have some money to blow. I have seen the Smith & Wesson Sigma around, and I like the way it looks. But it's so cheap! Surely, something has to be wrong with it to make it cost so little! I would like to hear some people's opinions on this gun, if anyone has had the opportunity to use one.

I own the Enhanced series Sigma model SW40V.I can say it is one of the safest best guns on the Market. When S&w sold us out to the Clinton Administration I boycotted them along with everyone else.Just so happened my wife bought it for me as a present. She knew nothing about the boycott.I fell in love with it.It has Novac type sights, mine has night sights the SW40ve has the same type sights but there not night sights. The gun has an excellant point of aim,it shoots what ever you put in it.And shoots very well.A small Police dept in my area issues them to their Officers.Dont let price fool you they are an excellant gun.If you want the 9mm the model is SW9VE.I dont like to tell it but I was Posting some property we own and was carring the gun in a belly band, some how the gun managed to come out of the belly band and fell about 10ft strait off a bak and hit the dirt road. The gun was fully loaded with a 15rd clip and one in the chamber and the gun just bounced a couple of times. So I know the internal safetys work, needless to say the belly band got put back and has not been used since. Good Luck.

Hey , there are several rumors about the s&w sigma and the price , the
most common heard one is that because of a law-suite from glock over this thing that s&w must send a portion of each sigma PROFIT to glock,so they cut the price and shafted glock , and the one about bad sales because of the "sell out" to Klinton , and on and on....
anyhow , its a very good gun ( i have a couple myself ), excellant
buy on "ballistic tupperware type gun".........by the way , we have access to hi-cap mags for these if wanted......................

Can you say, "piece of junk" with a 40# trigger pull! Getting a good group is hitting the back wall of the shootin range. If you got money to throw away, buy the sigma, if you want to buy a handgun, buy anything else.

I have fired two examples of the .40 S&W Sigma. One was a decent firearm and the other was a real turd.

A couple of friends have them and both are currently looking for buyers...

To my way of thinking, the Sigma is really just a Glock copy (as is the H&K USP, the Springfield Armory XD(?) and probably some others). Imitation is flattering, but the Glock is the only one I would recommend. This doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the others, but none of these guns has the same degree of proven performance as the Glock.

FWIW, I think they are all as ugly as sin, but if they save your life, they're beautiful.

I bought a SW9C back in 1996 when they were still somewhat new. This was my first "plastic" gun. I went with the Sigma because the grip felt better then the glock and the trigger also felt better " a little smoother and no funny safety on the trigger." Range wise this gun is not that bad. If you can handle a gun with decent accuracy under 20 yard the Sigma will do. I've only had a few malfunction and most were caused by a poorly seated magazine. High capacity magazines can still be found at decent prices. So if your looking for a decide shooter that can go for $299 or so, the Sigma's not that bad. You can surely find something a lot worse then the sigma.

Oh, and I still have mine! One of the better guns I've bought for 200 bucks.

I'm not sure about the XD, but the HK USPs are far superior to any Glock I've owned or shot yet. Having a real safety is always a bonus too!

You can probably find the article in the archives of the Texarkana Gazette. The Texarkana, Texas Police Dept. was issuing the Sigma in .40 caliber. They experienced a high percentage of cracking of critical parts. I can't remember if it was the frames or the slides, but it was pretty bad. They got rid of them and got Glocks. A little improvement but not much.

Several years back,I had a Sigma 9mm. Loved everything about it. It seamed to be warn out after about 400 rounds. Would not even chamber the 1st. round, without hanging up. Got rid of it.
