"No-name" AR uppers and kits, any good??

Any thoughts on the "no-name" brand complete upper units I see advertised in Shotgun news for around $400 complete with bolt and carrier? Serviceable, reliable stuff or get-what-you-pay-for? Any horror stories to share? I've seen some complete preban CAR kits from J&T, Model "1" Sales and American Spirit for around $450. Worth it or should I save my money for Bush, Colt or RR?

I have used M&A and J&T for several builds and they were very nice.

I bought a J&T complete upper a while back. Very pleased with it. From what I understand, their uppers are manufactured by FN. But, I'm sure the 'Colt-Elitists' will be alongs shortly to tell you to only buy Colt.

I bought a 16" and 20" upper from Model 1 sales and have had to replace the extracters in both. Not bad for a couple thousand rounds.
They make for a cheep and reliable AR-15 with the lowers costing around $100.

Ditto to Cletis, put your money into a good bolt, carrier, and other 'moving' parts and the rest does just fine.

Had a VERY unsatisfactory experience with a new upper from Del-ton.

Can you be a little more specific about the problem you had. I've read about some horror stories people have had with certain kits.

    Thanks,

I have a Model One Sales upper in the A2 config. that I couldn't be happier with. My next AR will be from them as well. No problems or complaints from me. Finish matches my Bushmaster lower perfectly... Sent the upper to Wilson Combat and had him install a post ban approved muzzle-brake. He threaded the barrel and blind pinned the brake on with a nicely finished weld. That makes the ATF happy. To top it all off, they refinished the barrel. Now the rifle looks good, shoots good and it is very hard to tell from a pre-ban version. Cost slightly less than $100 round trip including a Wilson brake. All of my buddies with the post bans are going to do the same to theirs. Really looks sharp. I recommend Wilsons without any reservations. Turnaround time was right at 4 weeks...
