I hear alot of different forums, reviews on what is a matching numbered mosin nagant, but how do I know what is truly a original matching # mosin? What do I look for? I have 2 m44s that all the serials match the receiver, alpha and numeric. No line outs, no EPd serials.

Your question isn't clear? If all the numbers match, with similar fonts and no electric penciling. Likely it's matching. But since most of the recently imported M-N's were rearsenaled/rebuilt, no way to actually know if they are absolutely original?

Well, one of the things I saw on a review, is a way to tell on the bolt is, if the little lip next to the bolt handle is rounded off, that it is likely the number was ground down and restamped. I looked on mine, and the lip or step up (idk what call it) is a little rounded but its still there and its nice n smooth where the serial # is. No sign of grinding. It just made me wonder, cuz on my '44 all numbers match the receiver except the bolt which has the same #s but minus the lettering. Confused yet?

A few polish M44s made their way into this country in un-issued condition. A matching bolt there is a good possibility.

Most M91s, and M91/30s have gone through one, if not several arsenal refurbishings. A matching bolt is almost rarer than hens teeth.

Several of my M91s saw service through the Czars army, the Russian Revolution and then action in the Russo-Finnish war. Most of them have 2 or 3 bolt re-numbers.
