Sig SP2022, Beretta PX4-C, or other?

Hello everyone, I recently just purchased my first pistol from a lgs. It is a Sig Sauer Sp2022. It has night sights and came with two magazines. Which I was very surprised because these usually ship with only 1. I paid $550 for this package for what I am pretty sure was a good deal. I was originally going to pick up a Beretta PX4 storm compact. The two mags, being a sig, and the night sights are what sold me. However it had been "test fired" guy said they fired a mag through it. Production date on box was May 31,2013 So I cannot imagine it has had much use, I also have not fired it yet for the purpose of this thread. I want to make sure everyone agrees this was a good deal and see if I should actually keep it? I havent fired it, and if I didnt like it he said I could bring it back just because it was a Sig. I was also into the Walther PPQ, I thought they were pretty cool and also FNH's. I know I know, I hear all kinds of things about Glock and M&P. But really, I dont want either of those. Atleast not for the moment. Anyways, should I just go ahead and keep the Sig and be happy with it? I really like the night sights especially for home defense. It's a 9mm 15+1 (should have mentioned that earlier) If anyone has any experience with this gun or any other advice please let me know as I would like to hit the range soon with something. There is also a slight wobble with the slide, not sure if this is a good or a bad thing? Thanks in advance everyone!

Opinions are like sphincters, everybody has one. You should have gone to a range that rented guns, or shot guns belonging to friends. To get an idea what was best for you.

What is best for the many different folks on the net, might not be best for you.

IMHO, you should have started out with a .22 pistol like a Ruger or a Buckmark. Just to get your feet wet with handguns, to get hands on experience, and help formulate your opinion(s). Regarding larger caliber handguns. Once you pick up the fine points over time, and doing lots of shooting. That's the time to look into buying a larger caliber pistol.

    alenigar1,

You got an average deal at best. I see them on the auction side for as little as $448.00 plus shipping. And yes, it has NIGHT SITES. If that was a 228, or 226, I would have said you got a SMOKING deal.

I wouldnt buy a Sig Sauer, just because it was a Sig. Everyone these days makes an entry level ride/gun. They will, of course, have entry level prices. You done, ok, try it out, and if you don't like it, get rid of it.

The closest range to me here in indiana is like 2 hours away. I have shot 22's and 40's. I didn't say I have never shot anything, I said I made my first purchase. I done a lot of research on what to get within my budget, looked at a lot of reviews and originally was going to purchase off GunBroker..but with the shipping and transfer fee. The price would have been about the same except i walked out with it and did not have to wait. I wish I would have been able to rent but the px4 and the sp2022 felt the best from feel for me. Just didn't know if one would have been a higher quality or have better accuracy but it all does not depend on the system, which im a pretty decent shot. Just wanted to see if this was the best bang for my buck or i should have gone with the Beretta that I was in love with.

    Here are my thoughts:

-You got a reasonable deal on the SIG. You didn't get a "steal" and you didn't get "raped".

-For what it is (a polymer framed service gun) the gun itself is fine. The question isn't whether or not the gun itself is OK, the question is whether or not its Ok **FOR YOU**.

-Only you can decide on whether or you like a particular gun. That's highly subjective, and nobody else can make that determination for you. If you've tried this gun, and you find it easy to point and shoot, and you like the sights and you find it comfortable to use, then you're done.

If you've tried both and really like the Beretta better then get the Beretta.

If you haven't tried either one, I really don't know how you can make a decision here.

-In GENERAL, its a waste of time to obsess about which model gun you have, let alone worry about if some other model. Almost all of the current generation of service pistols are accurate and reliable. They all basically do the same thing, and differences come down to a question of personal preference. (EG some people like one action type, some like another. Some people like a certain grip shape, others another, etc). So long you find the gun to be reliable, and you're comfortable with it, its fine.

When it comes down to it, your individual proficiency with your gun is going to be a LOT more important than which actual gun you have.

-That said, polymer frame guns are (by their nature) mostly intended for CARRY. The point of the polymer is to reduce weight, with a side effect of slightly increased recoil. If you do NOT intend to carry this gun, but instead are reserving it for range work and/or home defense, then perhaps an all steel framed gun might be a better choice for your purposes. But again, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the gun, and if you later choose to carry it, you can.

In GENERAL, its a good idea to try guns before you buy them. That way you don't have to worry about whether or not a particular model will suit you.

BTS is right, go somewhere and shoot your new gun. You can always buy the Beretta CX4 later, and either keep them both or sell one. The trick is to find a reliable pistol that fits you.

same gun on GunBroker with 3 mags new in box as cheap as 445.00 nothing wrong with them, but sig purists want the steel frame or alloy frame, not the polymer. local dealers here have quite a few of them, very hard sell.

    You paid a little high.
My first pistol was the sigpro. Which is darned close to what you have now.
I loved it. It was awesome.

But where in Indiana do you live that is two hours from a range ??

There are public ranges in Newcastle and Richmond. Get an app called " find ranges " it's free. It will show public and private ranges near you or by zip code. Good luck

Actually what I paid is about average, Gander Mtn. has them running for 600 wit. Mag and contrast sights. Also the prices on gun broker might be nice..but your paying 30-35 in shipping and another 30 for an ffl transfer fee from a lgs. It about evens itself out unless your bidding on something nobody wants. I think im good with the sig, its a brand new 2013 model, night sights are bright, its accurate as hell. I forgot to mention the interest of the FNH FNS though against the Beretta. I watched gun broker for two months before I purchased and went to more than a few shops, so I did do a lot of research. I live almost by the ohio line in central Indiana (unfortunately) I used to live in NJ and NY(only thing I like in Indiana are the gun laws lol), closest place that rents is in Indianapolis (according to google)..or Ohio but I dont know their laws in regarding indiana residents. If you know of a good place let me know. I am on property with enough land to create my own personal range, which I plan to do. I think I am satisfied with the sig, and If I decide I don't like the long stride on the DA and trade it in, I'm sure I will get just about what I paid for it. The only thing I liked more on the beretta were the looks and the slide did not have a wobble. I def want to try a an FNH though. Thanks everyone for the inputs.

Don't be so sure of that. The dealer, like a car dealer, is going to make money on the trade in too. They will offer you about 50% of what they expect to make which will be 25-30% less than a NIB one. You might see an offer of $300.00-350.00 for yours.

As for how you done, as stated before, you done OK...not great...not bad. It could have went further in either direction. Lest you forget, out of GunBroker, if you are buying out of state, there is NO SALES TAX. So, the shipping, and transfer fee, are a wash, possibly. I will gaurantee, you are paying shipping anyway.

Congratulations! You now own one of the finest brands of firearms out there.
Walther was taken over by S&W, and their quality went South. Same thing happened to the other companies S&W bought out-like T/C.
Beretta makes some guns, notably shotguns, which hold their value; not the pistols as far as I know.

You've apparently shot this gun, since you claim that accuracy is great.
Not a "fan" of the 9mm, but the Sigs I have handle every reload, commercial load, and even old nasty Milsurp ammo like it was new.

Sigs are generally thought of as overpriced, but with a REAL warranty and great customer service; they shine like a diamond in a goat's opinion.

Sure, the plastic frame is lighter, and the 15+1 is a comfort for when the Apaches attack, but I think it will stand up to whatever you consider abuse, and still keep runnin'.

Don't get all hung up on what the "gun snobs" have to say about it; it's YOUR gun, and you can take it out & play with it whenever you want, happily.
