M2 AP .30 cal Bullet/Ammo

I am thinking about purchasing both M2 AP .30-06 ammo and M2 AP .30 cal bullets (if I can find some for reloading). My question is this, is this bullet a flat base bullet or a boat tailed bullet. My rifle shoots flat based bullets very accurately but my groups open up to 1.75 to 2.25 MOA every time I shoot a boat tailed bullet, irregardless of the grain. I have seen some images that show the bullet with a flat base and some that show the bullet boat tail...I was hoping that someone with first hand experience could shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance for your help!

The M2 AP is a flat base.

Where did you see an image of a boattail M2 AP bullet?

BTW, the T6 and T29 are 7.62mm NATO bullets, both experimental.

What rifle are you shooting? The black tipped AP I shot were flat based and never shot as good as the 172 boat tails but always better than the orange tipped tracers.

BTW, again, the M1 AP was a boattail. Maybe that's what you saw? It was replaced by the M2 in 1939.

I don't recall ever seeing an M1 boat tail bullet in AP. M1 bullets are 173 grain boat tail with LEAD CORE.

Your mixing bullet designations. There are M1 Ball, M1 AP, M1 Tracer, and so on.

And not just cartridges. There are M1 rifles, M1 carbines, M1 machine guns, M1 tanks, . . . The list goes on and on.
