I just purchased a Daewoo Model DH40 MKII from a Police Officer friend of mine. I was concerned that this would be a "cheapo" However, upon inspection and firing, I found a very good shooter with great balance and terrific safety features, especially for a Left hander like me. My problem is, I can find no information whatsoever about Daewoo. The gun is stamped with "Kimber" and I know these guys don't import "Junk" can I get some info from someone regarding the gun, the model, it's ratings, and maybe where accessories can be found........Thanks !!!Troy In Kansas

the Daewoo is basically the same as S&W double action, with the addition of the feature which allows you to push the hammer down instead of decocking. They are made well enough, but the .40 cal was not all that accurate. There were some articles in the gun mags on the issue at the time, but it kind of faded away. There are no accessories made for the pistol, nor does it really need any. For defensive purposes and IDPA-style shooting, they are fine. You probably won't be winning any 2700 matches with one.

My son has the 9mm version and really likes it. It is also marked "Kimber", but I think that the arrangement stopped before Kimber relocated from Klamath, Oregon to Yonkers, NY. Sometimes he lets me shoot it and I (left handed also) like it. I heard that South Korea uses the same model pistol as a service weapon. If that is true, then I would assume a very good reliability/longevity potential. Most countries don't give junk to their soldiers. In the 9mm, some, but not all, S&W model 59 series (doublestack) magazines work. I think I can send an old gun mag (if I can find it) that reviewed the 9mm if you are interested. (joferranti@aol.com)I've been looking around here (Fairfax) for one to trade, but they are hard to find. If you are not into targets, I think you have a great shooter but not necessarily a tack driver (as stated above). But then, I don't think the .40 is known for it's precision. My $.02 worth :-)

The Daewoo .40 cal is slightly larger in the grip than its 9mm counterpart. The 9mm will (as stated previously) take most S&W 5900 series mag. Unfortunately the .40 cal mag doesn't interchange with anything else. The gun's design comes from features of the S&W, Beretta, Sig, and Taurus to name a few. The "Triple Action" feature is only found on the Daewoo 9's and .40's. Their .380's and .22's were basically a standard Walther design. A variation of that triple action system was years later found on the Para Ordnance LDA guns which got hand gun of the year two years in a row. It is interesting that Daewoo never caught anyones attention, but when Para Ordnance copied it years later, the industry took notice and gave high praise. In general good guns and usually at a good price. There was supposed to be a .45acp Daewoo, but only proto-types were ever made to the best of my knowledge. In fact the only variation of that, that I ever saw was a computer generated drawing of one. Unfortunately you'll have trouble finding grips or mags in the .40 cal. Mags for the 9mm are much easier to find. I've got plenty of the 9mm's in 10rd, but maybe only one or two of the .40 cals. The guns are well made, but I have seen some get loose sooner than one would expect. The safety is set up for rightees or leftees. The mag release can be reversed on the 9mm. As far as I remember, the .40 cal should be the same. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM
