Cast Bullets

As I'm new to reloading, this may be a basic question, but here it is. I've been looking around for some inexpensive bullets for plinking. (40 S&W) I've noticed that all the cast bullets I've come across are sized at .401 rather than the .400 that the commercially available bullets are sized at. Is this to provide a better gas seal with the softer compounds? Or is it for another reason that I am overlooking? Thanks for your help!!

Well, cast bullets can generally be fired safely if they are slightly oversized. More accurate, better gas seal, etc., etc., etc.

I used to launch pure lead at 1600 out of my 44 blackhawk and never had a leading problem, with the right mold design and soft lube.Lead bullets normaly run a little over size (.001-.002) remember they are softer and will compress to conform to the barrel.you shouldn't use lead bullets in a polyagional rifled barrels (the Glock style)
