old or not so old ammo

rifle ammo......how old is actually old.....i don't reload so i buy a few boxes at a time to get them from the same lot........how long would yall confidently hunt with this ammo..........or is it good "forever" as long as the brass stays in good condition. thanks...........*

    CA, I don't know about "forever," but if stored properly (dry air, regulated temperature) it will shoot just fine for decades. E.g., the CMP '06 ammo being sent out is 1969 manufacture. Now something w/ mercury primers, or made before WW2 or whatever is more problematic, but shelf life on most modern ammo definitely exceeds the time for which you are holding it.
