I have a Walther PP Super in 9X18 caliber. The gun was made in West Germany I believe in the 1970's. Can anyone tell me about this caliber and if ammo can be found ?

Today it's known as 9mm Makarov and is available everywhere.[This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 03-22-2002).]

BIG MISTAKE!!! It is NOT a Makarov. DO NOT try to shoot Makarov ammo in it. The ammo it use is called the 9mm Ultra or 9mm police. Those rounds use a .355" bullet compared to the .363 of the Makarov. I made the same mistake of assuming it was the same. I have the same pistol that you have and it is a very sweet shooting rig. The ammo is not common and it is unlikely that you will find any at your local gunshop or gunshow. Contact me if you need some. The ammo is also made in germany by Dynamit/Nobel-Geco. It has a 94gr fmj truncated bullet and is reloadable.barryfox@hotmail.com

No problem, no harm intended. I was told when I bought my PP super that it chambered and shot the mak. cartridge. Big surprise!!! Probably would have never bought it if I would have known, but it turns out that it is one of the best shooting walthers that I have ever handled. Ammo is kinda hard to get however....

For those unfamiliar with the PP Super, it looks more like a Walther P-5 than a PP or PPK series. Fits great in the hand. Ammo is difficult, but not impossible to find. 8-9 years ago it was a lot tougher to find. The bigger trick can be the magazines. A lot of people (regular folks and dealers alike) have made the mistake about it being just a 9mm Makarov caliber. As previously mentioned, it is not. The PP Super was also offered in .380 (which will bring a premium), but the majority that came into this country, came out of the German police, and they were in 9x18 Ultra. Interarms imported quite a few of them back in the 1980's.
