Guys,

I know we have been here before in the last year or more, but has anyone found any new inventory software that they really like? I'm not looking for something for free, but something that is easy to use and covers the important data with picture imports too.

Thanks,

I purchased GunTracker software a couple years ago and find it hard to catalog my collection with it. To make matters worse, they never sent or notified me of updates. Is there a simple, very user friendly software out there? I'm really not so concerned about the price as I am cataloging what I have in an easy to use format. Thanks all, Ed

Yep. One of the posters on GB has freeware you can down load. You can take a look at: http://www.somanyroads.org/gunsafe/

In the past, I purchased some great software to keep track of a gun collection. It is called "The Collector" and is simply to use, has great features and only costs about $40.You can download a trial version and then if you want to purchase it afterwards, you can do so. The Trial version only holds a few items while after you "unlock" it with the key provided when you purchase, you can put in an unlimited amount of items. Check it out at: http://www.uniterm.com/antique.htm

I downloaded a program called point blank which allows you to keep track of reload data as well as guns. I just got so it is still in the trial stages.

I downloaded He Dog's suggested shareware and put it on the hard drive and backed it up to the Zip drive. Just started using it but it seems pretty good and its very easy to use. If its easy enough for me, anybody, I mean anybody can use it. Thanks to all Ed

Iv'e never herd of such software, but sounds like a good idea, since I've been meaning to make a list of my small collection (about 20 rifles & handguns combined). Would you say this software is for someone with many, many more guns in their collection? One other question: If my computer gets stollen, then they know whats in my safe as well. Not too sure on this. Can you elaborate? Thanks.

I am not a computer guy, but this software will be fine for 2 or 200 guns. As far as it getting stolen, the prudent thing to do would be down load it on diskett or CD. Keep a copy in the safe and another copy + a printed copy in your safety deposit box, or other very safe off premises place. That should pretty well cover security. If the information is not stored on your harddrive a computer thief probably can't get to it. (Yeah, I know one of you whizes will tell me it can be recovered, but that's ok then you get to answer the question!)

Just-Shoot, I'm the person that wrote GunSafe. It is suitable for any size collection. Currently, it does not have any password or encryption features built in. If you wanted to protect the database, you could run it from a ZIP drive and lock up the disk when you're done, or encrypt it with something like PGP or Kremlin Encrypt. (If you are using Windows 2000, you can also encrypt it through the OS). I'm working on the next version which will include more reports, running totals, a few new fields and password protection. You will also be able to import all the data that you put into the current version into the new version. It will still be freeware, too. I'm going to try to have it done by August.

I have a friend with a gun collection valued conservatively over $100,000.00 and he was taking the advice of a mutual friend to "not write anything down" and had NO RECORD of what was in his collection. When I asked him what he would do in case of fire or to prove ownership of a recovered stolen gun he asked me for the reference to download GunSafe; its a great program. I have it on the home and office computers along with the diamond inventory of our diamond business; no thefts in 28 years of business. I travel with it on a zip disk and can work on it at either office and always update to everything current. When finished it will go on a CD...did I say finished? Gun guy's inventories are NEVER finished! Ed
