AR-15 Flattop uppers- need advice

Was thinking about having a varmint upper built. I prefer Colt upper recievers because they seem to hold value better than others. Ive found a used one but it has no markings that say its a Colt. It does have the 5/16 front hole for the pin. Is there any way to tell who made it? (or if Colt didnt). Would it be smarter to just buy one of the many varmint uppers for sale out there? Who makes good ones? Thanks for the help

If the FT upper is clean and fits your lower snugly, I'd say build on it. Olympic Arms makes some good barrels. Look at a 24" HB with 1 in 8" pitch rifling. You will also need a free floating handguard, gas tube with pin and a two stage adjustable trigger.Lastly, you will need to buy or find someone that has a receiver fixture, vise and strap wrench.

All Colt uppers have the identifying forge marks on the right by the rear sight.Uppers don't really matter on the price that much.Lowers definitely do.Don't get a Rock River upper as the rail specs are off.Their lowers are great.cpermd
