Colt Police Positive Questions

I have just purchased a Colt Police Positive, this is new to me..The barrel is correct, and it appears to be origional...Can anyone help me with a date of manufacture? The serial Number is 0743X R any help would be great.Scott

    According to that Serial Number, Gun was manufactured in 1977.

    Kaboom, my book says your Colt was made in 1928.

    Yep....That's correct! Made in 1928, Kaboom! I have one made in 1936 in 99%+ condition. Been always going to shoot it but just can't bring myself to dirtying up such a nice old Colt! They are built on the D Frame same as a Detective Special and use a good round, .38 Special.....! Mine is a 5 inch barrel so it doesn't lend itself to a carry piece.

    My thanks to both you guys. I haven't been online for a few days, so I'm late getting back to you. I took the old Colt on a swap deal and I knew it's fairly old. But it's still a very good shooter, and I have never seen a better made and finished gun anywhere.
