Question about Colt Police Positive

I just pickup the above and have a question.The barrel is a little less than 3". It has Colt Police Positive 38 Special on the left side of the barrel. The front sight is dove tailed into what would be a vented barrel if the barrel where longer, so there is just one vent. By the serial number, it was made in 1940. It just did not look like all the other Police positives I have seen, and was just wondering if it was all factory.Thanks,bud
