Can anyone tell me the appx. value of this pistol? The features that are listed in the safety manual are: Barrel length - 4 1/2 in.,Finish - stainless steel with Blue Rib., sights - fixed., Sight radius - 7 1/2 in. It has 2 magazines (10 capacity), hard plastic case and manual. I got this pistol after my father died in 1995 and are not sure of it's age. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Somewhere in that Manual or on the Pistol itself is the name of it. It would help to have that, and a serial number to attempt to determine age. You can put "X's" for the last couple of digits if you wish. Be sure to advise any letter prefix or suffix.

The serial number is PH248xx. There is no name for the gun...only Colt 22 in script letters on the side of the part that slides back. The manual only says Colt 22LR Semi-Automatic Pistol.

Thanks for the replys and trying to help me figure this out. If anyone wants to see it I can take a digital and email it. This may sound like a stupid question...but when serial numbers are given to the guns, are they random or can they be requested? The reason I ask is that the serial number is my son's birthday....coincidence?

I believe this pistol is likely exactly what the poster is describing, a "Colt 22." When Colt introduced the "Cadet" in 1994, it got involved in a trademark dispute, so removed the name "Cadet" and just marked the pistol "Colt 22." The "Colt 22" was discontinued in 1998-1999, when most of the Colt line went. These pistols were designed to be inexpensive to compete with the other inexpensive plinking pistols on the market, such as the Ruger Standard, etc.. They have little collector value and have market value about equal to the competition in the market place, probably $200 if mint, maybe more to the right buyer, less if showing much use.
