Your serial numbers confuse me. They should be either N followed by six numbers for the earlier guns and three letters followed by four numbers for the later guns. That is what you have given here; but what are the numbers following the dash? The 629 began in 1979 with S/N N748564. The 629-1 was first produced in 1982 when the pinned barrel and counterbored cylinders were eliminated. The 629-2 began in 1988.

REF44; Look at my response in GUN SAFES, ASK THE EXPERTS(THRED NOW CLOSED), I had the first 629 in Nebraska a full month before they hit the gun store's here...found it at Monkey Wards, in KC.MO, about the Fall/Winter of 1979. It was a 4" 629 with NO DASH. example: First they were 629 then 629-1, then 629-2, etc. The 3 I had stolen (4,6,8") were all 629, no dash, no numbers, Pinned and Recessed models. Later productions which had mechanical changes were 629-1, the 629-2, etc, with current versions costing more and the buyer getting less of a gun...in my opinion plus 2-cents...
