Has anyone heard if the Walther p22 is a good buy or not. How does it shoot, is it worth the money? In general how well are walther guns?

Walther makes nothing but high quality guns. Some like the ppks were being made by Interarms in Virginia. Interarms has gone out of business and they are now being make by Smith and Wesson under contract to Walther in Germany. I do not know if the P22 is made by Smith or Walther itself and imported. Perhaps someone else can say.
Either way, I don't think you would be disappointed in a Walther.
    Hope this helps.

I second that Walther makes nothing but high quality products. They ventured in over their head with S&W.They have took somw criticism. But things may turn out well for them, time will tell.

I wouldn't be so fast to praise Walther.

Yes, the factory at Zehla-Mehlis in W. Germany has always made guns that were outstanding. Interams imported them starting in the .60's, and performed the few repairs that were ever required.

Then, Interarms began to make them in the US under license. These guns were SUPPOSED to be "just as good" as the W. German ones; they weren't. Many owners had problems with them; their value is substantially less on the resale market than W. German guns. If you have problems, you must find one of the few gunsmiths willing to work on it; Walther won't help you.

Now, S&W is making them under license. We don't know yet if they are as good as the W. German guns. Considering the fact that S&W has been moving away from hand-fitted actions and highly polished exteriors, I am doubtful that they will be as good. And, if S&W decides to stop making them, you can be sure that Walther won't back them up.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Totally agree with 'nmyers'. Only have one manufactured in USA, definitely not same quality or reliability of those manufactured in Germany. Have had various individual argue problems are a result of .32 cal vs. .380 cal, could bear some merit. Personally think the Walther P5 one of their best models.

I've owned several Walthers over the years. Over half of the .380's were finikey about the ammo they would digest, especially hollowpoints. Every one of the .32's were 100% riliable, though I never owned a USA made .32. I also owned 3 of the small stainless 22 caliber Walthers--all were 100% reliable.

The most reliable stainless .380 was traded to me by a police officer. It was rough on the outside but digested everything. The only problem: it shot a foot high at 7 yards. Looking back, I wish I had kept the gun and removed the sights completely--they are unnecessary. Those type guns aren't made for pin-point shooting anyway.
