There's a Darne 20 gauge double for sale at a local pawn shop. I need to remove the barrels to check for markings/model/grade, etc. How do the barrels come off? I'd like to do it smoothly as though I know what I'm doing; I don't want to appear as ignorant as I really am about this shotgun. Any help appreciated.

beltfed: Just what do you want to know? There were (5) FIVE different Models Made by DARNE in St. Etienne, France...
The Bird Hunter, came in various Guages, Sliding Breech, Ejectors, Double Triggers, Checkered Stock....In Excellent Condition..$1000.00
The Hors Serie #1 with Fancy Engraving and Checkered Stock..$4500.00
The Magnum, 12 0r 20 Guages,3", Double Triggers and Checkered Stock
    $3200.00...
Pheasant Hunter; Ejectors, Light Engraving, Checkered Stock, Various Guages...$2500.00
Quail Hunter; Various Guages, Ejectors, Engraved, Checkered Stock...$3750.00..All the above in Excellent Condition..There seems to be NO distinct differance in value between the Different Guage...It appears that the value is going to be set by SUPPLY and DEMAND....You might consider POSTING a request for information on the General Discussion Forums and see what the rest of the World has to say....I Wish You Well.............

    Hello (John) Beltfed

If I could find a DARNE "Quail Hunter" in 28 gauge for $1600, I would fall down in a silly-giggling fit.

I would have to take out a signature loan in order to buy it, (they still do those where I live) but it would definately by the PRINCESS of my safe.

If you come up to my end of Florida and hunt with me, it is a quail, snipe, woodcock machine. Extreemly marginal for dove, and absolutely worthless for waterfowl (well except for rails, and unless you are prepared to load "hevy-shot" forget it).

Best Regards To You And Yours
