I read somewhere on this forum a while back that Browning bought Winchester. If so why are they still making ammo under the name of Winchester? I have noticed they are now refering to Olin corporation,on their guns.Someone here said it was because Browning didnt buy the Winchester name.Any information will be greatly appreciated I would like to know for sure?

I don't think Browning bught Winchester. Both are owned by
Giat (spelling?), a large arms concern locted in France.

Originally when Olin sold Winchester, Olin kept the ammuntion division along with the Winchester name. I guess the companys that bought out the firearm division were allowed to use the Winchester name on their guns.

In 1981, the company was sold and the new name is U. S. Repeating Arms Co. There have been a few changes to the company, and I stopped keeping track of them.
