Can i go in to a dealer in another state and buy a gun (rifle) with id and back round check. And then have the dealer ship it directly to me at my home?

I have a buddys gun and would like to return it to him in another state. Do I have to take it to an FFL and get them to send it to an FFL in his state?
    Thanks-

A nonlicensee can purchase a long-gun from a dealer in other than his home state provided the laws of both states are followed, generally speaking. However, given those circumstances the dealer could not ship the gun interstate except to another licensed dealer. Theoretically, you could ship the gun to yourself but good luck getting the common carriers to buy into that one.

From my recollection, you can take the gun with you imediately after you take posession of it and abide with any other local & state laws. You also have to abide by your state & town law, as well as any state you transport the firearm through.
