I believe it is already legal in california. I recently went to California Department of Fireams website. They list all california legal guns. I saw P22 there (double check that). I think you can buy it out of state and have it mailed to FFL dealer in CA. I wanted this one about a year ago, but it was not legal at the time. I ended up purchasing a ruger .22. P22 looks like a great gun, but do not know how reliable/accurate it is. If you get it, let us know how it shoots.

The P22 is a beauty. I got one of the limited edition vers. last week. It also, btw, easily accepts silencers if your so inclined.

Just picked one up over the weekend. Very nice and accurate for a 3.4" barrel. Had a couple of feeding problems which could be part of breaking in period or the cheap Federal's I normally get from Wallmart. I have a couple of Ruger Mark II target models and still believe they are the best .22 semi auto handguns made, but this P22 is made quite well and I am very pleased so far. It's light and compact enough if I decide to pack it into the woods. Got a really good deal ($225 out the door, NIB) so I could not pass it up. At least I think I got a good deal. Besides, with what I know now about it, I would have paid more. You can get a longer barrel and compensator for it, but I'll leave the tack driving for the Rugers.

I've had one - the long-barrel'd version - for about two months now; it's small in my hand but I've gotten used to that. I find it seems to digest the Winchester silver box 40grain standard velocity ammo just fine & is accurate enough for my needs - 1-1/4"" groups (before coffee) at 25 yards. I added the Walther scope mount & - with a 10mm Weaver adapter in between - mounted a red dot-type sight on top. My only objection is that the mags only hold 10 rounds (not Walther's fault; I had a Grendel P-30)!

    Q982 -

To get the best advice, you need to make sure that all those able to give you that advice have all the pertinent facts. You being 17 years old might have some bearing here.

.280 freak, you have inside knowledge about quickslvr982? (Not that it would surprise me; it's a small world after all...)

Nope, no inside knowledge. It's just that he posted recently over on General Discussion and said he was 17. Saw this post and thought that the only way he could get good advice was if his age was known.

I see; thanks for the feedback. It IS still illegal for minors to purchase firearms, isn't it? I'm not sure if they can OWN them in some states (somehow I doubt it for California) but I guess there's no harm in asking questions. Walther DOES make the P22 available as an airgun, which he might be able to buy & use in CA; I know that's what firearm-deprived shooters in Britain have turned to since they've been disarmed. I bought the 'scope mount for mine from a dealer in Canada that sells the pellet version.
