No. The O.D. is smaller by a little bit on the Rem. 57 primer,
making a loose fit in a shell using 209 primers. Rem. stopped making
the # 57 a while back, I believe. They are used in older Rem. plastic
and possibly old paper shells, also are used in the old Alcan all
brass shell casings they sold a while back for reloading. Some
people are looking for them for this reason.

A guy at Remington said they are 20+ years old, smaller
diameter than the 209, and he uses them on his
in-line muzzleloader for target practice. In the mid to late 70's Rem. used the smaller diameter 57 as a unique primer
to their shells. Then about 1980 switched to the 97 then to the standard 209 primer.

I used to load paper cases with the R-P 57 primer. It measured .227" in diameter and was developed for target loads. Remington and Peters cases used the 57 or 157 primer. The 109 and 209 primers mostly measured .240"-.242" and were used for Winchester, Western and Federal cases. Federal also made cases that sold under the "Revelation, Redhead and J C Higgins" brand names. You could force the 109 and 209 primers into a R-P cases but it would ruin the case for further reloading and in some cases would cause misfires on the first reloading. I never did this. I still have some old primers from the time I used to load shotshells. One of these days I will dispose of them.

If you don't care where you are going, you can't get lost.
