neck-sized brass: chamber in one rifle only?

I have a number of .30-06 reloads, neck-sized only; and the barrel in which they were fired is essentially shot(in very poor condition). I was wondering if anyone has found that they could chamber neck-sized brass in a barrel other than the one in which they were previously fired.

No use to try!! Chambers can vary significantly! I have a 7mmMag Synthetic ADL and also bought 2 more for friends. I broke all the barrels in and just for curiosity tried my neck-sized cases in the other two. Couldn't close the bolt! I knew I wouldn't be able too but used this to show the other guys what it means to neck size. I also have 2 7mmBRs that it is a PIA to keep brass separate for!!! If you get a case out of the blue box and try to use it in the "Red gun" it don't work! GHD

I was afraid of that. Oh, well -guess I'll just have to bang away with the old Springfield at a sheet of plywood at 50 yards and see if I can get consistent 32 sq. ft. groups.

    Thanks, GHD!

If you have the rifle rebarreled you can have the gunsmith use one of your neck-sized cases as the headspace gauge (I'm assuming that your old chamber is longer than the minimum spec. (go-gauge), but shorter than the maximum spec. (no-go) gauge and not over-sized in diameter).
The easiest and best way, is to (collet) pull the bullets dump the powder, and F/L size them. Re-powder and re-bullet.
I've been lucky in that my old barrel had a real tight chamber in it, and never found a rifle that wouldn't take it's neck-sized brass (but I never found brass from another rifle that would fit into mine either). The jury is still out on my new barrel.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

bwa, I agree w/ 1954, but would advise *careful* use of an inertia hammer over a collet. IME, judicious use of the hammer results in a high % of perfect salvage while the collet tends to distort the bullets.

If your barrel is shot out probably the chamber is a bit oversized also.I would never build a chamber in a new barrel with more than standard chamber.Hell just shoot those rounds off hand.We all should shoot more off hand anyway.Good practice even if you miss the whole target.
