30 30 Ackley Improved Load Data

I've just picked up a T/C Encore rifle barrel in 30.30 AI, am looking for reloading data and not finding much. I prefer something from a "data book" rather than any of the on line sites that publish what folks have come up with on their own. Also, much of what I see on line is out of the Contender or older 94s and the Encore can handle much more. I'm not looking to turn the rifle into a 300 WM but I got the AI for a few hundred more fps than the 30.30 WCF.

I have data books going back to Speer #2 and can't find anything on the 30.30 AI - any suggestions? Can the on line data sites with loads filed by "contributors" be trusted?

www.loaddata.com has a bunch, but you have to join to get it.

I don't have Ackley's books at hand. But as I recall, that is where the data for his various "improved" cartridges are to be found.

Anything else your on your own. Since 30-30 Ackley is for all practical purposes a wildcat. Doubtful to me that your going to find any loading data, other than from home loaders on the net. Nowadays with our uber litigious society, everything has to be lawyer proof. Not likely your going to find any +P 30-30 Ackley loads, from any commercial source.

I have a table of data from "Wildcat Cartridges Vol.2", the article is by Don Roberts therein...bullets are Sierra HP 125,150 gr. and FP 170 gr. Powder choices are various...

When dealing with internet sources, I'll read several and compare loads/notes on consistent ones. Here are a two from Cartridges of the World vol 11:

    150 gr SP IMR 3031 37.0 gr 2610 fps
    170 gr SP IMR 3031 35.0 gr 2310 fps

CotW did not list what gun or barrel length was used, but the 150 gr load is attributed to PO Ackley. Like anything, start up at least 10% lower (use regular .30-30 data if you like) and work up.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of getting the Ackley books - good idea. I've been thinking about joining "Load Data". Considering all the oddball cartridges I reload for might be worth the annual charge.

According to PO Ackley's book, Vol 1, the improved 30-30 will use 36 gr IMR 3031 to push a 150 gr bullet to 2535, 38 grs to 2700. Case, primer and bullet type not specified.

Sam Fadala's book, "Winchester's 30-30, Model 94" includes a chapter on the 30-30 Improved, referencing Ackley's data. He couldn't quite replicate the velocities shown in the data but got in the ballpark. His best accuracy was with 2,550 fps using 37 gr.of H-335 with the 150 gr. bullet from a 24 in. barrel.
