Does anyone have any idea what a S&W Mod 29, 6" barrel, nickel plated, 99% finish, in presentation case, with a double stamped S&W cartouche, might be worth?[?]

I agree. Unlike paper currency or postage stamps, flawed printing of either being worth big money (the worse the flaw the more they are worth) poorly marked guns don't carry that same sort of premium. Most buyers want their guns to look exactly the way they are supposed to look and a double-stamping is thought of as bad quality control rather than a collectible rarity.

We had a 586 sent in from the distributors, like that years ago. I couldn't believe that the inspectors would let it leave the factory in that condition. It really looked bad. Everybody always jokes about the guns made on Friday afternoons and Monday mornings. This 586, definitely had to be one of them.

Strange thing it sold. Guy that bought, didn't care at all.

As it is with everything in the world, there are guys who will look for the odd-balls. So, to him, the double-stamp would add to its appeal even though it may not have as much montary value.

If this were not true, all ugly women would be virgins.

Unless my memory is failing, I seem to remember a similar model 29 nickel plated with the double stamp SW emblem. It seems like it was 4-5 years ago. I distinctly remember seeing pics of it and I am certain it was on GB. I wonder if it is the same one the OP found.

Since you mentioned 5/686, on another forum there was a poster who bought a NIB 686 - 4. The cylinder had 6 holes drilled tor 38/357, but had only 5 flutes machined out on the cylinder.

i have no idea what it may be worth, but NIB i would say, to a collector it would be worth quite a bit once in his/her possession.

what is a S&W Mod 29, 6" barrel, nickel plated NIB worth ?

just done a search and they range from $1,000.00 to $1,600.00.

Well, that gun might have increased value for Russian Roulette!

Anyway, a "shooter" is still a "shooter". Double cartouche or other cosmetic flaws like that detract from collectibility, but not from function.

Indeed, the mashed up markings might keep a collector from buying it to stick in a safe until hell freezes over, but a shooter will buy it and use it.
